Chris Strout: Owner / Head Guide

Chris is often better known in the area as the “paddle board guy.” A Maine native, Chris has been paddling since he was a young teenager. A Master Maine Guide in multiple disciplines, Chris is the most experienced and highly certified SUP instructor in the state. A professional guide since 2002, he is one of the most knowledgeable paddling guides in the area, and he is always excited to share his passion and love for paddling, the ocean, natural history, and the MDI area with you. What began as a passion for sea kayaking became an obsession with stand up paddling. It was this obsession that led him to found Acadia SUP in 2011 after almost a decade with one of the local kayak outfitters. Starting with a couple maxed out credit cards, a homemade website, a truck with some boards on top, and a dream to do his own thing, the business has grown to something Chris is proud of. When he’s not paddling or working elsewhere in the business Chris can probably be found sneaking in a few miles on his road bike.

Staff member Alex

Alex Taylor: SUP Yoga Instructor

Alex has been with us as our SUP yoga instructor since 2013. A native of South Florida, Alex learned to swim before she could walk, and has loved water sports ever since! She is a certified scuba diver, worked as a kayak tour guide in Key West, and takes any opportunity to jump in the water (as long as it’s not too cold!) When Alex first tried SUP, she was instantly hooked. Alex spends the winters in Florida with her husband and dog Tasman. As the director for the MDI Summer Festival of the Arts, she loves her summers on MDI and had been coming since she was four years old. She is so excited to bring together all of the things she loves through SUP and SUP yoga.

Staff member Terry

Terry Pinkham: Master Guide and SUP Instructor

Terry is our indispensable jack of all trades. If we need something fixed or taken care of, he’s the guy. As a Master Maine Guide and Level 2 SUP instructor with the American Canoe Association, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes his trips so much fun. With a smooth laid back style reminiscent of the quintessential Maine way of life, every trip with Terry is a blast. A native of Ellsworth just off the island, there is little Terry can’t tell you about the area including great fishing spots. A true outdoorsman, Terry can usually be found outside, hunting, fishing, or boating.

Staff member Curtis

Curtis Paradis: SUP Instructor

If we had to describe Curtis in one word is would be: goofball.  Don’t let that fool you.  As the youngest member on the staff, Curtis is a phenomenal athlete and top-notch instructor. One of the top level ski racers in Maine Curtis brings an energy to all his trips that is nothing short of infectious. Curtis started with us in 2017 and is currently in college working on his degree. He loves the outdoors and wants to make a career out of guiding and teaching. When he is not on the water Curtis loves to hike, fish, and push the limits of what he can do outdoors.
